January 30th

Well, we are already at the end of the first month of 2012, so what has been going on.

Firstly, many of the ladies are getting ready to make the Christmas wall hanging.  Today we recieved the little Angel that will somehow be put onto our first block.  June had chosen the angel, and given us some hints as to how she did the sample, so looks like we are A and Away.  If you would prefer, you could of course make your own Angel block up.  Some bags of Christmas fabrics were brought in, .......and they were soon snapped up.  So its looking good for next week.

There is also a splinter group making a quilt from the 'British Patchwork and Quilting' magazine.  The quilt is called Calendar Quilt, and each month a new pattern is published.  Some of the ladies are already making their second block.  The first block was an appliqued (I think) snowflake, and of course February's block is made up with hearts, can't wait to see what appears through the year.

While I was wandering around today I also spied some interesting things that we maybe able to steal for an 'all day' session.  Can you see that wee little bag in the magazine?????? Well guess what, it's not a bag but a door stop.....how cute is that.  Maureen is making a practice one, lets see how she gets on then may be we will steal that idea.

All busy here, heads down and I'm not the one cracking the whip

This person keeps a clean table!!!!  I think its Sheila

These flowers looked almost 3D

There were a lot of other things being worked on, I saw what may turn into a baby quilt, or may be a few cushions .... watch for show and tell.  Applique flowers, knitting, cutting and stitching.  Everyone seems busy this year.

DONT FORGET: For the ladies that come to Wednesday evening group we have Diana Turner coming on the 8 Feb. for a Sashiko  workshop.  The rest of us must wait until the 27 Feb. but it will be worth waiting for.

Monday afternoon

Lots of lovely ladies at group again today, and quite a bit of sewing was done. Not all patchwork but still industrious.
We also had a bit of blogging going on. Its amazing how much time you can spend looking at what other stitchy girls get up to!

Check out the previous post for details of a Sashiko workshop in February.

Working away

Look at all those hexes, all hand pieced and so neat! A labour of love, well done Carol

Our All Day

Lots of sewing today, with members using the time to continue with their own projects. Had a really nice lunch and a catch up with all.

Details of the Christmas wallhanging were given out and most of the design elements were volunteered for.
June will bring the pattern in for the first block next week and we will start the project on Monday 6th Feb, receiving a new pattern on the first Monday of the month.

We have decided that with as many Monday girls attending as there is, we will have to start a wait list for new Monday members. This is the first time in 10 years that we feel we have to restrict membership, but we have no more space!!

Any new members are welcome to join us on a Wednesday evening.

We have also decided that we are going to form a formal committee (shock horror) Nominations for election of officers are invited. Please see our notice board for positions.

Out of almost 50 members there today, no one thought to take any photos!! Come back Jo!

Have you seen that we have had over 1000 visitors to our blog. Way to go us!

Monday 9th January 2012

After a longish break it seemed that everyone was very happy to return to our weekly group.  I don't think I have seen so many members turn up for one meeting in a long time.   Lynda did a head count and it seems that there were 47 of us altogether, so the new rules regarding Tea making could not have come in at a more appropriate time.  Did you know there was a cunning plan when we were given cups for Christmas??? Yes,  we now make our own Tea or Coffee.  I believe in future the Tea Urn will be filled and put on, but it will be up to each and everyone of us to make our own Tea and Coffee.  I for one think this is a good idea, after all making drinks for  + - 50 folk could take up all your sewing time.

Just look how busy everyone is
Lot of work going on here too

A few ladies had made a start on the bags for their cups, so they will be able to show off next week at the all day session.  Next week's all day will be a bit of a finish up day so you can clear your 2011 backlog ready to start afresh for 2012.
